The days here are long and bright. The true nature’s beauty is finally exposed to its’ fullest, as the flowers bloom and the grass is green. Dressing in light clothes and colors is not optional anymore, it’s a must. The sun’s rays pierce through the blue sky and warm up the ocean. At Meris Gardens, the tall trees cover most of the sun’s rays, assembling the perfect resting occassion for everyone. Nonetheless, the beach is always near, so whether you enjoy the beach or the tree shades, you can have them both.

Today is one of the most important day for all of the American citizens. It is the day that this country’s freedom was acquired 240 years ago from British rule. Today we celebrate the sacrifices and crucial decisions our leaders have made. So let us warm up our barbecues and prepare ourselves for the parades and the fireworks as this day will once again shine up the light on the freedom fighters and their history.

As the sun was coming up today, the joy and happiness from every guest could be felt. Today was a special day, a day to hold Eileen and David’s rehearsal dinner. The sunset was working hard as it announced the beginning of the dinner. The tables and chairs were set, the food and drinks were served and the guests were ready to begin the party. The weather was perfect and the beautiful gardens blend in perfectly with everything, giving the ceremony a special view and a glamorous feeling. Meris Gardens wishes Eileen and David a happy life together. Thank you for choosing Meris Gardens.

With the official start of the 2016 season only being three days away, we wanted to say a few words to our wonderful patrons of seasons past. I would like to take a moment to formally introduce Sue, our amazing manager that you will undoubtedly love the moment you meet her. Sue is our general manager and fearless leader, and, for the first time, would like to say some words of her own to show her utter appreciation and love:

“Summer is nearly here and we at Meris Gardens are already in full swing. Even with the weather being as up and down as it has been, Spring has kept us quite busy —  never too busy, though, to spend time reflecting back over our last three seasons, always asking ourselves what we can do better and what can we improve upon for our guests (so keep your eyes open each time you come back to stay with us!)

We have so many great memories and moments to reflect on. Even when the sun is not shining, we find ourselves sharing this-and-that from the past seasons, and can feel the warmth as if the sun is indeed shining down on us. We often find ourselves asking: where else can you work and meet so many wonderful people and families, as well as having the beach within walking distance? Not many people can be this fortunate.

We would like to thank all of our guests-turned-friends that have spent time with us at Meris Gardens. We have enjoyed every minute and think of you as family. Spring has brought many of you back, and summer promises even more to come.”

We really are all so blessed to have been able to have the opportunity to help you have a wonderful and memorable vacation — no matter how long or short it is.  Each and every one of you have brought us joy and a lasting friendship at Meris Gardens. It is with many thanks that we are able to continue to be your home away from home, and as always, we can’t wait to see you at the beach!

Well it’s Monday, and what better way to face this week than to plan a weekend at the beach? Come check out our newly renovated Garden Suite, say hi to Sue, and enjoy a relaxing weekend in our gardens before the summer madness begins here in Bethany. Pups are still allowed on the beach so take some time out for you and your family to get some R&R while it’s still easy to get around town. Lots of restaurants and shops are open year round.

While you’re here, ask Sue about our Bethany’s Best Guest Club to receive a 10% discount at select shops and restaurants!

We are so excited to announce new room rates for our Spring 2016 Season! Weekdays are now $99 a night while our Friday night through Sunday rates are $199. We have been working all winter on our lodge and rooms. After a busy March with Spring Break and Easter, April will feel like a long month. Treat yourself to a relaxing weekend away to recharge in your home away from home.

March 20, 2016

Happy first day of Spring!! After a long cold winter, this 44 degree weather is feeling great. We’re getting things ready in the lodge for the warmer months ahead. The weather might still be cool, but I am so looking forward to the season heating up here in Bethany Beach!

Stay tuned for more exciting updates to come! We can’t wait to see you at the beach!

September 23, 2015

The first day of Fall is finally here! (Did anyone else think it was going to be on the 21st?) We certainly packed in as many last minute summer events around town this past weekend as we possibly could. Between welcoming a beautiful new bride and groom to stay with us as they said “I do” to spotting a whale swimming around the triatheletes during the swimming portion of their competition, it certainly was an eventful way to say goodbye to the sunny season.

Overall, this summer was certainly one for the books. We look forward to seeing return guests in the future and invite you to come see us if you are planning your first trip to Bethany Beach. From our “home” to yours, happy first day of Fall. And, as always, we can’t wait to see you at the Beach!

September 15, 2015

I don’t know about you, but Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year; espeecially here in Bethany Beach! Personally, I’m a midwestern girl, so I am loving the sunny days on the beach. Something I didn’t know prior to moving to the east coast is that Spring and Fall are somewhat swapped when you’re living at the beach – Spring is cool by the water while Fall is still beautifull and warm through October. With so much still to do around town, take advantage of the small crowds, beautiful weather, and off-season pricing if you aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet!

What a beautiful Labor Day weekend! We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend here in Bethany Beach. We hope everyone has left refreshed and has made it safely home to start their shortened workweek.

A beautiful couple that we want to celebrate is Chris and Ellen who were married on June 13, 2015.

The note reads: “Sue, thank you so much for all your help. All of our guests that stayed with you had nothing but amazing things to say. Thank you, Chris & Ellen”. You are absolutely welcome, Chris and Ellen! It was such a pleasure being a part of your special day! We wish you all the best on your journey together through life – From all of us at Meris Gardens.

August 31, 2015

We can’t believe that Labor Day weekend is upon us! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the opening of the season. To send the season off right, we are offering special prices for this weekend. Give Sue a call at (302) 752-4962 to find out just how low we’re going!

The Jazz Funeral begins at 5:30 on Labor Day Monday. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this. You can find out more information on the Jazz Funeral here at As always, we can’t wait to see you at the beach.

Bethany Beach has such amazing local restaurants. If you want the proper sit-down nice experience, Northeast, Off the Hook, Hooked Up, Blue Crab, the new 99 Sea Level, and Blue Coast are all must-dine spots. If you want my all time favorite restaurant, though, I have to tell you it is Misaki Sushi south on Route 1. Misaki Sushi 1

From the Great Barrier Reef to the Great Lakes, I have had sushi in a lot of different cities in a lot of different countries. Hands down, Misaki’s sushi is the absolute best I have ever had.Misaki Sushi 2

My husband and I have a tradition of a weekly date night, so one night we decided to try Misaki. We were blown away. It is so unassuming as it sits in the shopping center alongside McCabe’s just south of Bethany Beach, but boy does it pack a punch! They have the absolute freshest tasting fish and seafood and I think it makes all the difference. The staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating. I could go on all day; I’ll stop now so you can use this time to try this place for yourself!

August 18, 2015

Well, the verdict is in for both Hannah and Sue’s favorite restaurant in Bethany Beach: DiFebo’s Italian Grill on route 26!

DiFebo's 3 DiFebo's 2 DiFebo's 1

Hannah couldn’t help but laugh while she recounted a time she went with a group associated with her local church where the priests helped in the kitchen with the chefs for charity. She raved that the service was not only friendly, but surprisingly efficient. Everyone had a great time and a successful fundraiser.

Sue added a story of her own about a time she spent her birthday at DiFebo’s. She remembers, “I don’t know what I was expecting, but everything was just wonderful; from the moment we walked in, it was just perfect.” Her waiter had great suggestions as she chose the risotto (which she had never tried before) – she said it was amazing. Not only did he have fantastic suggestions, he had a great sense of humor as well, which she says, “With my group, you’ve gotta have a good sense of humor.” I think we can all agree that a good sense of humor makes an experience all the better.

We hope that this helps find some local places for your trip to Bethany Beach. heck back soon for our final favorite!

No1We are beyond thrilled and proud to announce that we are back to our top spot on TripAdvisor! What a sweet relief it is to see that #1 beside our name again. With all the hard work that is put in to making Meris Gardens truly feel like a home away from home for all who visit, it is wonderful to see that hard work means something to our guests. It is our guests that have put us at #1; for that we are eternally grateful. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and please continue to make Meris Gardens your #1 accommodation of choice for your stay in Bethany Beach. If you haven’t been out to see us yet, please do! We would love to have you.

From all of us at Meris Gardens – Thank you!

If you haven’t spent much time researching restaurants in Bethany Beach, it could be safe to say that you may not have heard of another hidden gem, and one of the best restaurants where I have ever had the pleasure of dining, named Northeast. If you blink while driving along route 26, you just might miss it. Located in a small strip of shops, one might overlook it as something less than special perhaps. I am here to tell you that Northeast is absolutely not a place to be overlooked anymore.

I first heard the name floating around the office while we were compiling the list of restaurants we wanted to reach out to for our Bethany’s Best Guest Club participants, and was intrigued by how many people at Meris raved about the food. So, as any good new local does, I decided to take on the challenge of trying as many restaurants around my new digs as possible. My husband and I had friends in town one weekend and decided it would be a perfect time to give it a go. Boy were we glad we did! We ordered almost everything on the menu: steamed clams, calamari, the fried seafood sampler… you name it, we most likely ordered it. We finished our meals off with the blueberry cobbler and peach crisp. My mouth is watering just remembering that dessert.

The best part of the menu is that they have a specials page that features local, fresh caught selections alongside a description of where they were caught! Realizing that the fish I was about to eat was caught in Ocean City brought a whole new level of excitement and resolve with my order knowing where my food was coming from. That extra step was really appreciated by all of us at the table.

My husband and I loved it so much that we went back for a date night the very next night! Northeast Seafood Kitchen will absolutely be a permanent fixture on our list of favorite restaurants in Bethany Beach.

July 25, 2015

Continuing our countdown of favorite spots around Bethany Beach, I have to place McCabe’s in South Bethany as one of our favorites here in the office. From homemade baked goods and breakfast sandwiches to salads larger than your head, McCabe’s is such a gem in South Bethany. They also have a general store for you to browse while you wait for your breakfast or lunch to be prepared.

My first experience with McCabe’s was when Michael – Meris Gardens’ owner and one of the warmest people you’ll have the pleasure to meet – surprised all of us in the office with cookies. As someone who was still relatively new to the area, I had no idea what “McCabe’s” was. As far as I was concerned, it must have been a code name for Heaven itself considering how good these cookies were. The next day I went to find this “magical place with the cookies”, as I described it to my husband, and sure enough there is was on route 1. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and, of course, an assortment of cookies to bring back to the office.

July 18, 2015

We are counting down our favorite restaurants around Bethany Beach! We’re going to start the countdown with one of my personal favorites: Turtle Beach Cafe. Located right in the heart of Bethany Beach’s boardwalk, you get to enjoy ocean front views while sipping your organic coffee – they even have almond milk!

There’s something so magical about being one of the first people up in the morning during the summer; when the temperature is just a little cooler and waves are crashing against the sand. Walking along the beach with a cup of coffee is just the most calming way to start any day. Something else I love about Turtle Beach Cafe early in the morning is the group of gentlemen who meet at the boardwalk with their coffee every morning. It’s the nicest reminder of the simple things that bring people together: a beautifully peaceful beach, great conversation, and an even better cup-o-Joe. What’s even better than that is that when you stay with us at Meris Gardens you will save 10% on your total bill at Turtle Beach Cafe!

One new benefit of staying with us here at Meris Gardens is becoming a member of our new exclusive Bethany’s Best Guest Club. The sad dormant “Bethany’s Best Guest Club” tab on our website is finally in use! We have been working on this for a couple months now and can’t wait to share access to the participating businesses with our guests.

Bethany's Best Guest Club

While this may be a great incentive for you to come for a visit, I’m sure that if you’re anything like me, your family budget plays a starring role in your vacation planning process. I’ll let you in on a little secret: weekday stays at most hotels are a great way to save some cash during your holiday on the beach. Even while the season is in full swing, most accommodations simply don’t fill up during the week, so take advantage of the deals! It might mean you take a couple days off to start your vacation earlier, but it will be well worth it while beating the crowds and the high prices. There are still plenty of things to do during the week around Bethany Beach.

Trust me: you’ll be thanking me when you call Sue and ask about our weekday specials. More often than not, we are a prime example of a great accommodation that has openings during the week. Have a beautiful week and we can’t wait to see you at the beach!

Our Garden Suite is our newest addition to our lodge.  June 19, 2015

At Meris Gardens, we are so blessed with the company we keep. From first trips to the beach to 50th wedding anniversary celebrations, we are given a first hand look into some of the most magical memories as they are being made. We have recently started sending personalized thank you emails to all of our guests. In these emails, we have realized that the phrases “It was a pleasure having you,” and “It would be our honor to see you as a regular guest,” come up so often. Trust me when I say that these words are not used lightly. It truly is our pleasure to have the guests that we have; to be just as much a part of their memories as they are a part of ours. We love to recount stories here in the office of different events that take place at our bed and breakfast.

This past weekend, we had so much fun hosting a group of girlfriends for Laura’s bachelorette party! Sue, especially, had such a great time. She gushed about this particular group being the sweetest girls to ever come and stay with us. They came and thanked Sue over and over again for her hospitality. (In all fairness, Sue really is that amazing with everyone.) If you’ve stayed with us, I’m sure you’re nodding your head in agreement.

Love Quote

Along with the bachelorette party, we were able to take part in another celebration of love: Nancy and her husband’s 38th wedding anniversary! What a beautiful thing it is to share your life with another person. Someone to grow with, to learn with, to share your love and most precious memories with. As the above quote says, “You are forever and always the hero of my heart, the love of my life.” Seeing them together really was the embodiment of this beautiful idea. We wish them all the best in love and happiness for many more years to come.

As it is Thursday, I think it  is safe to say that we are all looking forward to the weekend. Personally, I can’t wait to spend mine on the beach. There is just something about having my morning cup of coffee with my feet in the sand that puts my life into perspective. I think I speak for everyone when I say that it is my happy place. I don’t know what it is about watching the waves and smelling the salty sea air that allows any stress to melt away. At the beach

June is upon us! …And we can’t believe how the time has flown. To celebrate the newness of the month, we are excited to announce that there will be a new guest room inside our lodge! Our rooms E, M, and J are our featured rooms that are attached to the lodge here at Meris Gardens, and this will be the largest of the lodge rooms featuring a sitting area, large dressing area, attached bathroom, television, and outdoor seating area. Here is a sneak peek at the king of the lodge itself:

Breakfast Quote

As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While this may or may not be true, we certainly take our breakfast seriously here at Meris Gardens. We love to bring tried-and-true recipes that we love as well as find new recipes that we would love to try out.

Most recently, our waffles and monkey bread have been a hit at our complementary breakfast.

Breakfast (Svec) Monkey Bread Spread

We wanted to make sure to do something extra special for our guests this Memorial Day weekend to celebrate both the holiday as well as our special guests, Robin and Chris, who celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary! We also had another very important guest: one year old baby Everett who enjoyed his first trip to the beach!

It brings us so much joy to be able to celebrate our guests’ special occasions with them – and breakfast, in our eyes, is one of the small ways we can show we care for each and every one of our guests.

May 22, 2015

We are so blessed with our guests here at Meris Gardens. This week we had a particularly beautiful guest grace our gardens by the sea. Joined by her wonderful daughter, Sara was able to spend some quality relaxation time in our retreat in the woods.

Today we received the kindest words from Sara herself:

Dear Sue, thanks for helping make my 75th. birthday such a perfect one.  I loved the place, I loved my room, and I loved your warm welcome.  It felt like staying with relatives…!
You run a wonderful place – so comfortable and homey, that on Wednesday I stayed in most of the day, enjoying the quiet and looking at the pine trees out of the window.
Looking forward to staying with you again, and with fond regards to you and to your grandson,
Sara (Visiting from Argentina)
Sara, from the bottom of our hearts, it was our pleasure. We can’t wait to have you stay with us again in the near future. Happy 75th Birthday, Sara – We hope you come and celebrate your birthday at Meris Gardens for many more years to come!

Certificate of ExcellenceWe are thrilled, humbled, and thankful to be receiving this award: Thrilled by the sense of achievement and honor this award represents; humbled by the idea that our little getaway in the woods would receive such recognition; most importantly, thankful, specifically, to our gracious patrons. While we may have opened our “home” to them, they truly have opened their hearts to us. Through TripAdvisor, we are given a glimpse into our guests’ experiences through eyes. For this we are eternally grateful. These reviews, photos, and stories allow for a unique opportunity in which we can more objectively evaluate areas we can push ourselves and continually evolve. To see what others are saying and to add any input you may have about Meris Gardens, feel free to see all of our reviews here. It is with full hearts that all of us here at Meris Gardens wish to say thank you!

What a beautiful weekend we had here! Between the weather and the guests, I’m not sure which brought us more joy.

We were graced with the love between Mr. and Mrs. Gomez as they shared their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends here at Meris Gardens. We had so much fun laughing and listening as they recounted stories from years gone by.

Having the opportunity to witness true love between such beautiful souls was the real gift to us. Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Gomez – here’s to 50 more years of love, health, and happiness from all of us here at Meris Gardens.

May 13, 2015

Here at Meris Gardens, we love to find new ways in which we can improve. When you stay with us, you’ll undoubtedly see us walking around looking at the grounds, the outdoor seating areas, the grill area, and all throughout the lodge gathering ideas to share with everyone back in the office. One of the things I personally love about the Meris Gardens group is our ability to build each other’s confidence and inspire each other whenever we collaborate.

One of our newest ideas came from Hannah, our Assistant Manager. When she came on board, she noted within hours that she couldn’t picture where everyone ate during breakfast and during our hors d’oeuvres hour. We stopped for a moment to talk together, and, sure enough, within a week we got started on a new seating area in our lodge for our guests to use.

We are so excited with the progress being made so far! Stay tuned for more changes in the near future — We can’t wait for this weekend’s guests to enjoy this new, versatile room in our lodge!

 May 12, 2015

Welcome to our blog! Check back from time to time to see what goes on in our own little slice of heaven here in Bethany Beach –

We have recently received a letter from a guest who found himself in quite a predicament with one of his pups – The letter reads:

Meris Gardens —

Not only did we enjoy all of the amenities, grace, & ambiance of your lovely and well-run B&B, but we so appreciated the compassionate and cool-headed response of manager Sue and James (from the landscaping team) when our dog’s friendly enthusiasm put her, literally, in a tight spot between the porch railings! Thanks to them and the kindhearted ownership, the peacefulness and inspiration of our stay was assured. Sue is amazing – handling everything with thoughtfulness, aplomb, & ease. The simple, clean, charming, & sun-dappled beauty of Meris Gardens exceeded our expectations in every way. We’re trying to edit our “gushing” for a TripAdvisor review – look for it soon! Keep up the great work, and Thank You!!

PS – Love the deep sink and shiny pine walls in room “J” and the airy decorating in the clubhouse.

We are sincerely humbled by these kind words. Our guests mean the world to us. Our general manager Sue — really, our General “Mom”ager — cares so deeply about the needs of others. Every day it shines through in all of her small acts of kindness for not only us in the office, but, especially, each individual guest.

We so look forward to sharing more special moments from here at Meris Gardens. Have a beautiful rest of your Tuesday, and we can’t wait to see you at the beach!
